About Us

The Read Without Tears Story

Meredith DeBenedetto, or Mrs. D, has taught for over two decades. She is passionate about teaching kids to read, especially those with disabilities or learning challenges. Mrs. D herself dealt with ADHD and Dyslexia while growing up, sometimes bringing her to tears. Hence the name of the business. The silver lining is she knows how to reach and teach children with those and other reading challenges.

She's known for her humongous heart in her classroom, often sharing with others how much she loves each of her students. Sometimes, it even seems she loves the troublemakers more than the "good" students. She gets them.

Mrs. D teaches with many interactive activities, such as board games, fun quizzes, projects, technology, and teamwork.

Mrs. D and her husband, Aaron, a local pastor, wanted to start Read Without Tears to help more kids than she could in her public school classroom. They dream of being flexible where they live to follow their children throughout their lives.

Meet Meredith DeBenedetto, M.A.T.

Meredith DeBenedetto, fondly referred to as "Mrs. D." by her students, graduated with honors, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Political Science and Classical Studies from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, VA. Her academic pursuits primarily revolved around Ancient European and Renaissance Art and Architecture, a journey that took her abroad to the Center for European Studies and Architecture in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland.

Throughout her college tenure, she held memberships in esteemed associations including Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science National Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, and the National History Honor Society.

Her pursuit of academic excellence continued with the acquisition of a Master of Teaching Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, with a specific focus on middle school education themes. Mrs. D. has taught all ages and levels, but her favorite student is the one sitting across from her. Her secret passion and idiosyncrasy is her love of English grammar and literature.

Meredith loves her dog, Daisy May, and her two human children, Maggie and Eli.
